Someone Else's Data Center
How many times have you heard the anti cloud camp say that "Cloud is just someone else's datacenter" or "cloud is just a datacenter in the sky"? My recommendation to people who think this way is to attend a conference from AWS, GCP, Azure or your favorite cloud provider and ask themselves how they can deliver an equivalent service catalog which the same user experience that scales on demand.
Cloud is much more than infrastructure. Cloud providers are moving up the stack offering fully managed services that reduce the need for managing infrastructure while providing a suite of common and industry specific services to accelerate the development process. If you equate cloud to servers in the sky, you are missing the whole value prop of cloud.
