I often here people who are not big fans of cloud computing use the phrase "The cloud is just another data center" of "the cloud is just someone else's data center". These people are equating cloud computing to hosting. What they are missing is that public clouds provide a ton of productivity gains for developers by abstracting away the complexities of running a datacenter and providing highly reliable and autoscaling capabilities that most data center operators can only dream of. In this cartoon I show a screen shot from an Andy Jassy (AWS CEO) keynote speech that shoes the summary of their impressive service catalog that truly empowers developers to build great things at speed. Datacenters are about physical equipment, clouds are about builders.
